Tether has launched a GBPT token that is pegged to the British pound sterling

Tether is the issuer of USDT, the largest stablecoin in the world by capitalization. This summer, the project team announced the launch of a new GBPT token pegged to GBP (British pound sterling).

GBPT is the fifth stablecoin issued by Tether to the international market and is correlated with fiat currencies. Previously, the company issued:

  • USDT (US dollar analogue);
  • EURT pegged to the euro;
  • CNHT, based on the Chinese yuan;
  • the recently launched MXNT, based on the Mexican peso.

Tether guarantees that all stablecoins issued by the company are backed by 100% financial reserves. The cryptocurrency is launched on the basis of the Ethereum blockchain. It is a stable virtual asset. Its exchange rate fluctuates within a 1:1 ratio to the British pound with minimal variation. You can use AnyExchangeBest service to exchange Tether cryptocurrencies.

The release of GBPT was facilitated, in part, by the fact that Her Majesty’s Treasury (UK Treasury) announced in the spring that it intended to turn the country into a global cryptohub. At the same time, a number of steps were planned by the Government of the United Kingdom to officially recognize stablecoins as a means of payment with full legal force.

The launch of GBPT is further confirmation of Tether’s ambitious goals: to bring the most demanded and at the same time liquid stablecoins to global markets. Despite a lack of stability in the cryptocurrency sector this summer, Tether’s management continues to report positive results. According to The Block, the company does not plan to reduce the staff and is aimed at further development.
